Summer – the best time of the year – at least I think so! Those days that you can get up knowing you can just pull a pair of shorts and a t-shirt on, and go – no need to think about wrapping up, taking a coat, or that it might rain!

Long days, warm evenings, summer holidays – all these things make summer my favourite time of year!

But alas, summer is short-lived – at least here in the UK it is! I am always looking for ways to prolong the summer months, and creating summer diffuser blends to burn around the house, is the ideal way to do this!

There are many different essential oils that are ideal for diffusing and using to create a feeling of summer but the best, and my favourite are;

  • Lavender
  • Lemongrass
  • Eucalyptus
  • Orange
  • Ylang Ylang
  • Jasmine
  • Mandarin
  • Bergamot
  • Lemon
  • Lime
  • Grapefruit
  • Peppermint

You can also use these oils to create some wonderful SUMMER ESSENTIAL OIL RECIPES – everything you need to get you through the season!

How to use a diffuser for your summer diffuser blends

You can either choose to use a diffuser or a burner for your summer diffuser blends.

With a diffuser, you add water to the diffuser – check your diffuser’s instructions to see how much – and then add the essential oils. Once the diffuser is switched on, it will emit a steady flow of scented steam into your room.

A burner gently warms the oils. With a burner, you add a small amount of water to the receptacle on the top of the burner and add the oils. Light a tealight underneath, and this gently warms the oil, to release the aromas. While diffusers are hugely popular and easy to use, I prefer a burner as you get a purer, more distinct aroma from the oils.

Precautions of summer diffuser blends

As with any diffuser blend, if you suffer from any respiratory disorders, then proceed with caution. Use fewer drops of your chosen oils to see how you react to the aroma.

If you are diffusing the oils around young children or pets, then also reduce the amount of essential oils you are using, and – especially with pets – gauge their reactions. You may like to read about diffuser blends that are safe for children or essential oils to rid of pet odours.

If applying any of these oils topically, then some other precautions apply;

  • The citrus oils of orange, mandarin, lime, grapefruit, and lemon are phototoxic if applied to the skin, so avoid direct sunlight after application
  • Cypress and jasmine should be avoided during pregnancy
  • Peppermint and eucalyptus are incompatible with homeopathic medicines
